Car theft - How does it happen?
The majority of new cars with an on-board-diagnostics port provide access to read the internal computer system of your car. As you can imagine, these ports provide extensive capabilities for car dealers and mechanics, allowing them to control every aspect of your car. Unfortunately, thieves have found a way to exploit this and ha created a way that allows them to steal your car in as little as 30 seconds.
Ways to protect your car:
Install an Obdshield *
Use a faraday pouch (keyless keys)*
Replace your OBD port with a dummy port
Relocate your port to another position in your car
Install a battery isolator
Use a 'Disklok' style steering lock
Add a tracker
Install a third party software protection package
*Recommended ASAP - Cheap, effective & simple
Our OBD shield acts as a cheap, easy, fast and effective way to protect your car from fast smash'n'grab style thefts using OBD.
****
The OBD shield slots onto your car OBD port. The wiring loom connecting to the port is held between the two fixing bolts and the
OBDShield cover is clamped onto your port; holding it securely and tightly. When installed correctly, the port will be near impossible to
remove without damage and can only be removed correctly by using the correct tool. You must remember that the thief will have little time and room
to use intrusive tools to remove the Shield from your OBD port. Most OBD ports fitted with the Shield are in small areas
that are not accessible with large tooling. The OBD cable loom can also be cable tied to existing looms, to make access to this area harder.
****
It will not stop them just slow them down
And it won’t protect your tools so please use other security measures too
